That's an odd banister, I wonder why so high? Or was that top part added on so patients or kids couldn't slide down or jump over? Odd.

If that's a doorway, it looks really narrow.

It did! I had a place that had 15' high ceilings and in the winter time, all the heat would end up near the ceiling. My power bills were enormous! Maybe that's why these places had to have their own power plants with several blast furnaces running, just to keep the room temp a comfortable 70 degrees when it was ten below outside.
