Thanks for the info! I don't recall seeing sandbags, but I'm not familiar with rigging equipment so it may have been overlooked. It also might have been salvaged.

The hospital was closed proper in 1996, however some of these buildings were closed for quite some time before then, I would guess sometime in the 1970s-1980s.

Thanks; the hospital closed in 2002 due to dwindling patient population and poor financial performance as it ran up over $1 million in monthly losses.

Yes that's pretty much the plan. Some places are patrolled, some alarmed, some video taped, some protected by dogs - it varies greatly, as does access; eg. open window or door, crawlspace, climbing, tunnels...

They moved horizontally across the wall, but all doors in a cell block could be operated with a single lever (see http://www.opacity.us/...02_door_controls.htm ) - so they weren't as old of a design as the ones in Eastern State Penitentiary for example - http://www.opacity.us/...atric_department.htm

I was standing in a hallway, which was intact for the most part, looking into a doorway of this collapsed area. I can't remember which wing or ward I was on though.

The darkness of the bricks is actually a combination of being wet (no doubt contributing to the crumbling of the plaster), and some green and black mold.

Hey Erica, sorry the photos didn't make it out of the camera! I only have a really old set from that hospital posted online, although I have a few recent trips that I haven't gotten to - http://www.opacity.us/...ychiatric_center.htm
