Northampton, Massachusetts.
Michael P. Hogan, President and CEO of MassDevelopment, Northampton Mayor Mary Clare Higgins, and Gerry Joseph, Vice President of The Community Builders, announced today that the transfer of ownership of the campus and buildings from the state Division of Capital Asset Management to Hospital Hill Development has been finalized.

Hospital Hill Development is a partnership of MassDevelopment and The Community Builders to redevelop the 126-acre site. Plans include 207 residential units, 476,000 square feet of commercial space, and a 60-80 unit assisted living facility.

"Redevelopment plans for the State Hospital property are now falling into place," said Hogan. "In June, phase one of the redevelopment project began, allowing for the development of up to 109 units of housing and 152,000 square feet of commercial space. At the end of November the ownership of the property was transferred to MassDevelopment and The Community Builders. Now the next step is demolition of the power plant, connected tunnels and five wood-frame residential buildings that will begin immediately to make way for Kollmorgen."

"We are very pleased with the working relationship the City has formed with MassDevelopment and The Community Builders," said Northampton Mayor Mary Clare Higgins. "We are thrilled that the project is moving forward and the ownership transfer has taken place."

"Since we first became involved with the redevelopment of Northampton State Hospital in 1997, we have been working toward this day," said The Community Builders Vice President, Gerry Joseph. "It is a great day for the city of Northampton, one which would never have happened without the foresight, persistence, advocacy and sheer hard work of the Mayor, the Citizens Advisory Committee and a whole host of local officials. An extremely unique and productive partnership among MassDevelopment, the city and TCB has been forged to not only get us to this day, but to implement the community's vision for this site over then coming years."
