Multiple Units Respond to Henryton State Hospital Fire

Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, a fire was reported at the former Henryton State Hospital Center. 

Firefighters arrived to heavy fire erupting through the roof of the large four story building, according to the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department.

Firefighters from Carroll, Baltimore and Howard Counties were on the scene. 

The hospital is currently abandoned and was shut down by the state in 1985. There is no electric or utilities in the facility. 

The incident is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
