Watch Your Step
Although the Detroit Police Department was stationed in a large building across the street, the back door of the Grand Quarters was always open. It was a busy place for an abandoned building, where all sorts of shady activity could take place shielded from view. I also suppose it was the only place to take a dump in New Center with some privacy, as I narrowly missed stepping into one of the many piles in the darkened space.
Inside the theater's cavernous space, the view was pretty fantastic: a stage was framed with colorful and interesting ornamentation, complete with a single disco ball hanging in the black void above. Everything else, however, seemed to be stripped down to bare wood framing. Even with the skeletal remains revealed, there was little left of the old structure, but it was still a great sojourn in a world of decrepitude.
