The campus was a psychiatric hospital, converted to a prison, and starting renovation; I didn't have much expectation of being able to access much here due to all the barred windows, razor wire, and fences surrounding the property. Even the stormy pre-dawn sky seemed like a bad omen. However with some careful planning and a bit of luck, we were able to access a fair number of buildings, and some were stunningly beautiful.
I hadn't researched the history of this hospital before, but when I stepped inside, I immediately knew it was incredibly old (in American history terms). It was really fantastic seeing this asylum; when it was built, the first Kirkbride building wouldn't be constructed for another 23 years. The buildings we were able to see seemed to be in great structural condition, and I knew they would most likely be restored in short time.
