It was a freezing, bleak day in Buffalo. Most people who visit the old Lackawanna plant photograph the beautiful administration building, but we had some unlucky timing - some kind of official activity was stirring at the old building, perhaps a remediation or demolition study.
Skeletal structures of the coking plant hovered in the distance; black bones against the gray sky. The photo situation was terrible, my camera at the time just didn't have the latitude to capture the deep blacks of the coal-covered steel and the overcast sky... but climbing that huge conveyor sure seemed like fun!
Once at the top, we watched our friend talking to someone in a white pickup, way down on the ground. Guess the yard was still being used (oops). Time to get the hell out of there before they looked up!
