This is such a beautiful shot. That green is just gorgeous.
I was in these tunnels as a kid in the 50's then as a teenager in the 60's & a hiker from that point forward. I know every inch of this mountain, the tunnels, rifle range & the old reservoir by Clausland Mtn. Rd.

In my high school years we used to go out in the woods -- we called it Clausland Moutain tunnels
Lots of parties up there way back then!

Mr. Motts, do you play in a metal band by chance? You've got the look.

Also all your pics are amazing and your site rocks.

Just as an aside, Sightglass is wrong: that Nike site was a Hercules site, not an Ajax, which means the missiles were armed with nuclear warheads instead of high explosives.

I know this might sound like kind of a dumb question and it probably is, but do any of these hobos cause any trouble? I guess my question is, are they completely nuts and are they going to try to kill two girls exploring this place?

Used to hike up here all the time when I attended college at STAC. Still love to visit whenever I'm in Rockland County. Last visit, when those early winter storms went through in October/November 2011, the marked trails were hard to follow with all the downed trees. Got lost in the woods on the way back, and baashed the shit out of my shin on some rebar sticking out of the concrete wall. Good times!

Just discovered this website & it is bringing me back to the early & mid 1970s when my buddies & I ran amuck in this place! Those were some great times. And yes, as the "Urban Explorer" notes, there were three such rooms, all with earthen floors, and not much to see.

Lots of strange and not good stuff happened out there, including a murder very close to "the hole." Then again, my buddies & I had a blast...
In 1936 and 1937 my brother James, 7, and myself lived in New York City. Those two summers we went upstate at a boys camp, Camp Bluefields where the sadistic adult counselors repeatedly forced us into those tunnels for the entire length of the structure. Naturally, all the kids were in hysteria as we immersed into daylight. Talk about child abuse!

Back in the 30's when we went through, I don't recall any graffiti on the walls or litter on the floor.
For creepy stories about Tweed
