Yeah the cleanup costs drive up redevelopment of these places so much, and are why so many are left to rot. Lead, asbestos, underground tunnels, unmarked patient cemeteries; however, there are plenty of instances where these old hospitals have been rehabbed without demolition.
There is a lot of houses and buildings left on that site I would love to buy one of them they have sat there for years and years
My grandmother use to work there and live on the grounds they had for staff it’s still there and I also worked there in my late teens . They said there is so much lead and abestos in there scared to tear it down

My brother and I were just discussing the abandoned places, esp trolley lines, canal, and how interesting they were. Thanks for taking the photos.
I remember these halls and the locked doors unable to get out....was put here age 19 for trying to commit suicide....and the thorazine....always the thorazine! I ran away one day when they walked me across the yard for therapy...….escaped! It was hell there. 1968

Motts, thank you for recording these images. I grew up in Buffalo and live close to Rochester. I often wonder what is behind the face of abandoned buildings. Thank you for providing a snapshot of what lies beyond. And as a person who once worked as a chemical technician at Eastman Kodak, I appreciate the depth of the pictures.
