This place sure was cleaned out.
Looks like the bank of garages behind where I live.
yea I don't know if I'd fill that up with grain or whatever, it's too nice.
I always wanted a house with a tower on it.
The basement looks in better shape than some of the rest of the place. When usually the basement is the worst because it's usually got moisture issues.
That brick work reminds me of when I used to build things with those "American Plastic Bricks" as a kid, you'd get the same kind of effect with the white and red bricks.
This place must have been magnificent in it's day. It's magnificent NOW.
Even that scalloping around the windows, I can't get over how every area is detailed with some kind of design.
I would have picked up that window that's on the floor and tried to put it back in place, just to keep the elements out.
That band around the ceiling almost looks like there was trim of some sort there that was ripped off. Were the floors brick or concrete too?
ohmygod. . . I would love to live in a place like this!
Where on earth do you find these places? This place is gorgeous, I can't believe it is just left vacant and hope the do rehab it at some point.
I recently bought a book about Dixmont that was loaded with photos before the place closed, after it closed, during it's decay right up until the time some family bought it. This mural is included in the book and it's explained that these were people that worked there, and the sixth woman from the left "originally had a bird on her head because one of the residents thought it would look good." This is a quote from the book. Bird on her head or bloody eyes, either way this whole mural is a bit disturbing.
I've seen double sets of doors like this before but there was a foot or more in between to act as a kind of "air lock", but these just seem much too close together.
I have this sudden craving for split pea soup!
